Some Of Our Favourite Luxury Sports Models

Since there have been so many exciting British victories in sports this month, including Lewis Hamilton’s first circuit win of the year, we thought it would be appropriate to stick with the sports theme, and discuss some of our favourite current, stylish and sporty watches.

We’ve picked four of the world’s most popular watch brands and their sportiest models. Whether you want a watch with sports appeal or you’re after a watch that you can wear whilst training, we’ve got the perfect selection for you.

Patek Philippe

Nautilus – ‘Sporting elegance’

First we have Patek Philippe’s most popular collection, the Nautilus collection. To make things a bit simpler, I’ve chosen to focus on Patek’s newest Nautilus model, the 5740/ 1G, which was unveiled earlier this year at Baselworld. The beautiful rounded square white gold case features a blue-striped dial, dual time, day, month and date indication, and a moon phase disc at 6 o’clock. This modest yet attractive wristwatch allows it wearer to enjoy a wealth of information without the complicated layout or bulky exterior.

Aquanaut – ‘Modern, sporty and chic’

As we approached the millennium milestone, Patek Philippe decided it was time for a new, contemporary and fresh looking wrist watch to mark the new era… and so the ‘Aquanaut’ was born! Ref. 5167A is everything a practical wristwatch should be; clear, comfortable and, well,  not so flashy. The stainless steel timepiece is the perfect companion when exercising and travelling because it is ultra-resistant to wear, salt water and UV radiation.

Rolex

Submariner – ‘Robust and functional’

The Rolex Submariner has, and continues to be, an extremely popular and well-loved model. The Submariner ‘Hulk’ in particular has experienced a huge increase in demand and worth over the past year. What once had a retail price of £6600 is now being sold for £9500 or more. The watches’ strong and durable qualities and sporty appearance has attracted admirers from across the globe. Not only is it waterproof to a fair depth, it features luminescent hour markers, a ceramic bezel with submersion time indication and a date window at 3 o’clock. If you spend a good amount of time in the water, or getting rough with your… hands, you should look at investing in this green god.

Audemars Piguet

Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph – ‘Sporty, masculine and powerful’

One of the more attractive Royal Oak Offshore pieces is ref. 26401.RO.02. This spectacular beast features a large 44mm rose gold case, black ceramic pushers and a black ceramic bezel. The modern black and rose dial exhibits chronograph subdials, date indication and baton hour markers, coated in luminescent material. With a water resistant depth of 100m, it isn’t the most dive appropriate watch in the world, but it is a well-made and durable piece . No wonder the Offshore collection is a favourite among the world’s top athletes!

Richard Mille

RM 027 Tourbillon – ‘Totally comfortable and ridiculously lightweight’

And finally, we cannot possibly discuss luxurious sports watches without mentioning the sportiest brand in existence, Richard Mille. The RM 027 is one of the many watches that have been purposefully designed to withstand the stresses and demands of Rafael Nadal’s extremely powerful backhands.

The incredibly well engineered wristwatch features a predominately carbon based case with grade five titanium elements and a breathable rubber strap. The RM 027 houses an advanced tourbillon movement, which has been modified to withstand the constant shocks tennis players sustain during long games. The best-selling point of this watch is most definitely its ultra-lightweight quality. The watch weighs a feather-like 20 grams, an unbelievable weight for not only a watch, but also a watch that houses a tourbillon movement.

Investing in one of these stylish wristwatches should definitely be on your to do list!
