Panerai looking for early wind in its sails with limited edition watch
Panerai has created a stunning diving watch ahead of the 37th America’s Cup.
The Swiss brand with Italian heritage is proud to show off yet another Luminor Luna Rossa timepiece – a nod to the five-year partnership it has held with the sailing team owned by Prada CEO Patrizio Baterelli.
Panerai has created watches that take inspiration from the materials and technology used in the America’s Cup and the elegance of the yachting lifestyle.
Minimalist style
The new minimalist 44mm offering, priced at £5,100, will be hard to get hold of as it’s limited to just 1,500 pieces.
It boasts a polished steel case which matches with a polished lever, contrasting with the brushed crown protection device. These beautifully complement a matt white dial and numerals coated in grey Super-LumiNova that glows green in the dark.
With this one you’ll be spoilt for choice as there are two straps to choose from – one is black rubber whilst the other is dark grey fabric with a red stripe.
At 9 o’clock you’ll find a small seconds hand in red and at 6 o’clock the proud Prada Cup holders, ‘Luna Rossa’ in text.
Powering the 100m water resistant watch is a P.6000 hand-wound movement particularly robust thanks to the twin bridges supporting the regulator and an Incabloc shockproof device. It offers a three-day power reserve and contains no fewer than 110 components and 19 jewels.
Italy keen to win
Panerai has been involved with other Italian sponsors including Pirelli, Prada and Parmigiano Reggiano, to bring the America’s Cup home.
Qualifying for the America’s Cup begins this month and Italy will be keen to win the next event, which takes place in Barcelona in September and October, 2024.
The 37th America’s Cup will see Emirates Team New Zealand defending its title against Ineos Britannia.
Several yacht clubs have sent teams to challenge the title over the years. At the last America’s Cup, Luna Rossa became the Challenger of Record, though were ultimately unsuccessful in overhauling the defending New Zealanders.
