The gift of giving: Time for stars to shine
MANCHESTER City’s squad decided the time was right for praising some backroom staff this Christmas.
It’s been revealed that generous players spent thousands of pounds buying Rolex Submariners like the one below, for several staff as a thank you for their dedication over the last two seasons, according to The Sun.
The watches were engraved with ‘Centurions 2018’ to honour their record breaking 2017/18 Premier League success, which saw them win the title with 100 points.
But the players recognised it wasn’t just down to their hard graft, so they decided to thank some key backroom staff with the incredible gifts.
It seems luxury watches aren’t far from many celeb minds when it comes to the perfect present. Here are a few of our favourites:
Roger Federer
Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who holds a staggering 20 Grand Slam singles titles and has held the world No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a record total of 310 weeks, has been a long-term lover of Rolex. He wore the iconic brand when he beat Pete Sampras’ Grand Slam record at Wimbledon.
In 2012, he became a Rolex ambassador so was lucky to receive a fair number of the beautiful watches. He was spotted donning a Rolex Datejust 41mm during the presentation for winning his record eighth title at Wimbledon in 2017.
He also has a Rolex Skydweller but it’s understood that his favourite is a vintage Rolex Daytona 6263 which was a 30th birthday gift from his wife.
Jay-Z
Certainly one for the watch collector who has everything, the next timepiece is worth a stonking £3.9 million!
Beyoncé liked it but she didn’t put on a ring it. Instead she opted to buy this Hublot watch for husband rapper Jay-Z, who is never spotted without a nice timepiece on his wrist. Also a big fan of Audemars Piguet, he received the 1,282 diamond-encrusted ‘Big Bang’ watch for his 43rd birthday in 2012 – and it took craftsmen a staggering 14 months to complete.
Victoria Beckham
Fashionista Victoria Beckham, who is know for her timepiece and engagement ring collection, was gifted a pink gold Rolex Daytona for her 40th birthday from husband David and their children in 2014.
