Bellissimo… Another colourful collaboration for Bucci and Audemars Piguet

Inspiring Italian jewellery maker Carolina Bucci has once again teamed up with Audemars Piguet for a very special take on a classic timepiece.

London-based Bucci, who is no stranger to collaborations with AP, has already brought her frosted gold technique to design two watches and a jewellery collection for the brand – in 2016  – for the 40th anniversary of the women’s Royal Oak, and two years later for a limited edition with a mirror dial.

Now she’s super proud to show off her new ‘black’ ceramic Royal Oak.which is limited to just 300 pieces.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Carolina Bucci watch

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Carolina Bucci watch, which has been created to celebrate the icon’s 50th anniversary, offers a dial that at first appears black but on closer inspection is a very special multi-coloured mirror effect  – a tribute to the iconic Tapisserie design.

The unusual design is achieved by using a sapphire plate covered in structured squares, added to a brass dial plate to create a rainbow-coloured display of light. Not only that, it also features a golden metallization to create the mirror effect to shine light on the dial.

But the best thing is, that every watch is unique due to the way the colours are created.

Inspiration for the watch came from everyday life, where Bucci finds beauty in the most unexpected places, such as iridescent puddles of water and oil.

The watch is described as unisex but Bucci says that it was designed for ‘her’ and as with her previous watches, “ if it appeals to men, then that’s great, but that’s definitely not how it started.”

More about the features

The bezel is secured by hexagonal pink gold screws to add to an array of colours. And as always, the components and bracelet are satin-finished with polished chamfers for that luxury feel. Even the hour-markers and hands are in keeping – and the 22K pink gold oscillating weight.

One major difference is that the pins that are usually visible from the side to connect the links to the studs, are now integrated into the studs.

And while it is Bucci’s tribute to the Royal Oak’s golden anniversary, it doesn’t have a 50th anniversary winding rotor. Like other 34mm designs, it is powered by the same 5800 calibre and offers a power reserve of 50 hours.

If you do manage to get your hands on one of these watches, you’ll know you’ve acquired the real deal if you see ‘Limited Edition Carolina Bucci’ on the titanium caseback -under there you’ll be able to spy the movement which shows the hours, minutes, seconds and date.

You also get a presentation box designed by Bucci.
