British Watchmakers’ Day 2024: Exclusive timepieces unveiled
The first ever British Watchmakers’ Day takes place on Saturday – and the event is completely sold out.
The Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers is hosting an exhibition dedicated to showcasing the work of its trade members at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster.
And it’s sure to be an impressive offering packed with at least 30 of the best British watch brands including Accurist, Beaucroft, Brooklands, Christopher Ward, Escudo, Great British Watch Company, Monro, Thomas James and Roger W. Smith.
And the most exciting news for guests is that only they will be able to purchase a special edition watch being made exclusively available on the day. These future collectables are sure to be in big demand and of course, will be extremely limited.
Brooklands
At the core of Brooklands Watch Company lies the principle: “Time is Life. Measure it Well.” This philosophy has shaped their approach to British Watchmakers’ Day, resulting in the creation of three Limited Edition Triple-Four Racing Chronograph watches.
Originally designed by Sir Terence Conran, the watch features a 43mm bezel and Bi-compax sub-dials reminiscent of the timekeeper’s watches at Brooklands race track. For the special edition, it has been revamped with a quintessentially British Royal Blue dial.
Proceeds from the sale of these watches through a closed bid auction, will be donated to the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers, a non-profit organisation.
William Wood
Fans can also expect to see the Fire Exit Watch, a special edition timepiece crafted by esteemed Trade member, William Wood, debuting on Saturday.
This unique watch embodies a blend of creativity, innovation, and whimsy. Drawing inspiration from the universally recognized fire exit sign found in buildings, offices, and transport hubs worldwide, the Fire Exit Watch is a testament to imaginative design.
Powered by a Swiss-Made Sellita SW220 Movement, renowned for its precision and reliability, this watch is not just stylish but also dependable. Adding a playful touch, the day wheel features the iconic fire exit sign man in various poses corresponding to each day of the week, illuminated by Super-LumiNova for visibility day or night.
Elliot Brown
The original Beachmaster timepiece has already earned its place as a future classic, thanks to its patented mission timer. Essentially adapting a GMT function for mission countdown and timing, it’s no wonder this limited-edition version merely offers a subtle aesthetic tweak.
Yet, the addition of a green and red inner bezel on the 40mm stainless steel case, makes the Fade model stand out like never before. The colours are drawn from two of the operation’s assault sectors: Easy Red and Fox Green, underscoring the military heritage that is integral to this watch and to Elliot Brown as a brand. With a 56-hour power reserve this watch with Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement packs a punch. There are 20 pieces available.
Beaucroft
The British Sky edition of Beaucroft’s Seeker is the perfect divide between colourful and classical. The Seeker is steely blue-grey as well as clean, understated with a keen spirit.
With a 37mm stainless steel case with 50m (5 bar) water resistance, Miyota 9039 automatic movement and 42-hour power reserve, it’s quite the catch if you can grab one of the 25 pieces available.
