Landmark watches to invest in this year

A number of brands are marking major milestones this year, with special editions to celebrate significant anniversaries. With limited editions aimed at brand fans and collectors who want something quite special, you’d be proud and lucky to acquire one of these unusual watches. Here we take a look at some of the offerings for 2019:

Omega

There’s one timepiece that fans can’t wait to get hold of as 2019 commemorates 50 years since the first moon landing. A one-off gold Speedmaster Apollo Anniversary limited edition watch is to be launched by Omega.

This timepiece is modelled on a watch that was presented to the 1969 astronauts at a dinner following the mammoth event. The caseback of the 18k gold watch with deep red bezel, had the following inscription: ‘To mark man’s conquest of space with time through time, on time.’

But to own one of these beauties is as tricky as the task they celebrate as only 1,014 will be made.

A.Lange and Söhne

After Berlin Wall fell, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of A. Lange and Söhne company founder, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, joined forces with entrepreneur Günter Blümlein, to create stunning timepieces that the brand could be proud of.

The company presented its first four watches in Dresden in October 1994. Among them was the Lange 1, which became an instant hit due to its asymmetrical dial design and oversized date.

The design was commended for many awards and was beyond years for its innovation. In fact, the watch is still synonymous with the brand’s incredible skills today and has helped put A.Lange and Sohne back on the map.

This year celebrates a quarter of a century since the vision became reality and four watches were created, one of which was called Lange 1. The Lange 1 ‘25th anniversary’ model features recesses, deep-blue numerals, markers, date numerals and steel hands.  By the end of this year there will be 10 anniversary models of the Lange 1 watch.

Zenith

The new 45 mm Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Trinidad Edition helps Zenith mark the golden anniversary of its legendary El Primero chronograph movement this year. But it’s also the golden celebration for the Trinidad cigar.

The striking watch comes in rose, yellow and white gold with brown dials. The case back is engraved with the Trinidad 50th Anniversary logo.

There’s only one problem with getting your hands on one of these stunners – they are rare in the UK and sales are prohibited in USA.
