Our latest photogenic offering is the Richard Mille RM 35-01 NTPT Carbon watch, created for tennis legend, Rafael Nadal in 2014.

The year prior had been an incredible year for the feisty Spaniard with ten championship titles in the bag and a staggering comeback after injury to make number one in the ATP rankings within 12 months.

And the RM 35-01 represents his innate strength and determination – here is a man prepared to ignore any barriers that stop him reaching the success he strives for.

Baby Nadal

This model is referred to as the Baby Nadal because it’s a third of the price of the one he wears when he plays tennis and it’s super lightweight at just 50 grams.

Teamed with a red rubber covered crown, legible dial, and durable features, it’s the perfect watch for sports.

With several different comfortable straps to choose from, the most common is the kevlar strap which has – wait for it – velcro to fasten, it… pretty crazy for a watch that costs around £180,000. But somehow, it’s the perfect accessory to suit the style.

Carbon case

The RM 35-01 Rafael Nadal houses the new RMUL3 calibre and uses 24 jewels and a free-sprung balance beating at a frequency of 4Hz. It also boasts grade 5 titanium throughout and a highly skeletonised manual winding with hours, minutes and seconds. With a power reserve of 55 hours provided by a double barrel system, this classic movement weighs just 4g.

But what we really like is the design of the case as it’s made from a futuristic material. 

While the main colour is black, the case features several glossy grey tones that combine to form a camouflage-looking case. This is due to the high-tech case created from NTPT carbon.

It consists of multiple layers of woven carbon filaments, each just an incredible 30 microns thick and woven with fibres to make the case extremely rigid and robust for playing sport. 

Distinctive 

The strange thing about this watch is the lack of dial. It’s simply the watch case with the glass, then the fascinating movement and beyond that, is the back of the case. The dimensions are incredibly deep but there are no numbers or complications. It’s an all or nothing sports watch complete with shock absorbers.

On every level, the RM 35-01 embodies toughness and fabulous architecture under stress. This truly is a remarkable design in the world of Haute Horlogerie.
