Richard Mille launches its first women’s sports watch

What’s bright, bold, sporty and complicated, designed for women and only weighs about nine teaspoons of sugar?

Here at Luxe Watches, we love Richard Mille and his out-there designs.

Known for being super lightweight and highly shock resistant, some Richard Mille models have famously been worn by many professional athletes, including Rafa Nadal and Yohan Blake.

But while the brand has long supported female sports competitors, there was no women’s sports watch….until now.

So we are thrilled to at last see the brand release its super slim, vivid RM 07-04 Automatic Sport.

Power athletes

The new watch was developed by a host of high-achieving ladies including two heroes of motorsport, a golfer, a Winter Olympian, and two stars of the athletic track getting close with the designer team.

Aurora Straus, Margot Laffite, Nelly Korda, Nafi Thiam, Yuliya Levchenko, and Ester Ledecká all had their say on the highly technical watches.

And best of all, they each got to choose their own colour variations – a fab collaboration between the Mille design team and the athletes.

Cécile Guenat – the creative and development director at RM, was the brainchild of the Bon Bon collection –  hence the fancy colours coming back into play with contrasting straps.

And while they’re nice and bold for playing sports in and attracting lots of media attention, they’re also suitable for everyday at a nice 30.5mm size, taking streetwear as an influence.

Compact movement

The RM 07-04 houses Richard Mille’s most compact automatic movement ever.

With a skeletonised and shockproof calibre, the CRMA8 has a function selector at 4 o’ clock and also provides hours and minutes info. And with a 50-hour power reserve, what more is there to love?

Attention to detail

Grade 5 titanium is usually used to create items connected with aerospace and automotive industries, so no expense has been spared in creating the angled plate and bridges. These have been finished with a black PVD treatment.

The plate and bridges, which create the super angular and graphic look, are made of grade 5 titanium, completed by a black PVD treatment. And of course, its mastercraftsmen haven’t left any detail out, as they’ve hand polished the angles.

Beautiful skeletonisation stands out due to the pop colour cases with the graphic element particularly striking. The tonneau-shaped cases come in cream, mauve, salmon, green and dark blue for the Quartz models and in black for the TPT (composite  material) version.

A grade 5 titanium crown is encased in a contrasting colored rubber and the pusher contrasts too. But not everything is pink. There’s variety – and that’s what we love.

And it’s robust too, made to suit any climate – a serious bit of kit.
