Tee off with these terrific timepieces in the Ryder Cup

Golf’s greatest rivalry is underway on the fairways and greens of the Marco Simone course in Rome as Europe and the United States battle it out for the Ryder Cup.

Despite being reigning champions, the Americans have not won on European soil for 30 years and will feel the time is right to address this losing streak.

With foursomes, four balls and singles matches running across the weekend under warm Italian sunshine, competition will be fierce and the pressure on those in the spotlight.

And while all eyes will be on the fairway, they’ll also be sneaking a peak at the wristwear on offer.

Jon Rahm – Rolex Sky Dweller

Former world number one Rahm had quite the watch on when he donned the traditional Green Jacket after his Masters win in April.

The 28-year-old Spaniard owns a Rolex Sky Dweller 336934 and has worn it on a few victorious occasions.

It features a 42mm case made from Oystersteel and white gold. Under Rolex’s trademark bidirectional fluted bezel is a gorgeous blue dial. An off-centre 24-hour ring of another time zone topped with a scratch-resistant sapphire with a Cyclops lens over the date.

Rory McIllroy – Omega Seamaster

It’s an emotional return for Rory, who was in tears after feeling he’d let his team mates down at Whistling Straits – the last Ryder Cup.

The Northern Irishman has been an ambassador for Omega the last few years and is often seen wearing the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf.

Viktor Hovland – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

When he lifted The BMW Championship trophy, the 25-year-old Norwegian was clearly sporting a white ceramic Royal Oak with integrated bracelet.

Having only turned pro aged 19,he quickly made a name for himself on the PGA Tour achieving multiple victories.

The Royal Oak in blue ceramic replaced the white ceramic model earlier this year with pieces limited.

Colin Morikawa – Omega Speedmaster

Known for his excellent ball-striking ability, the American is considered one of the rising stars in professional golf.

One of his most notable accomplishments came in 2020 when he won the PGA Championship – his first major – becoming the third-youngest golfer in the modern era to win the PGA Championship at just 23. He secured the victory with a remarkable final-round score of 64, which included an eagle on the 16th hole.

Morikawa, being an Omega ambassador, had a relatively straightforward task when it came to selecting a watch. While identifying the watch as a Speedmaster was a breeze, it was evident that it wasn’t your typical Moonwatch.

Instead, the young golfer opted for a blend of modern and vintage elements in Omega’s most iconic timepiece. His appears to be the black dial variant with white markers, which debuted in 2013.
