The Best Sailing Watches For Your Nautical Collection

If you fancy taking to the seas this summer, you’ll want to check out the best nautical watches on offer.

Whether you’re going to be speeding round a regatta or casually lingering at the bar with a cocktail in hand, you’ll want to be seen with one of the best sailing watches round your wrist. Sailing watches are renowned for their accurate timing, quality & luxury design, but which ones are the best? Read our guide on the best nautical watches.

Rolex Yacht Master 42

The waterproof qualities of the Rolex Yacht Master 42, is what makes it an ideal sailing watch, as its Oysterflex bracelet offers a great alternative to metal, which could suffer in the rain and water. Easily attachable to the watch case, safety is guaranteed via an Oysterlock safety clasp by a flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade.

Offering brilliant accuracy, its functional bezel allows the wearer to calculate the sailing time between two buoys – crucial in the timepiece’s distinctive identity. Its blade is incredibly resistant to environmental effects.

One of the most attractive aspects of the watch is the distinctive dial, characterised by 18ct gold hour markers. Like every Rolex, the dial has been created by hand by its in-house team to ensure perfection.

Tag Heuer Aquaracer

One of the most popular timepieces in regatta circles is this trusty Tag Heuer Aquaracer nautical watch from 1982. The Tag  Heuer Aquaracer offers an understated but pleasing black or dark blue dial without any unnecessary complications.

The Aquaracer chronograph boasts high-tech pressure-resistant casing to protect your watch during an intense ocean voyage and if you really fancied it, the ability to time your deep-sea diving down to the last 1/100th of a second.

With several sports watch functions including faceted hour and minute hands with green and blue luminescent markers, this sailing watch means you can enjoy adventuring into the night.

Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta

Meticulously designed kinematics ensure this nautical watch is incredibly precise. In many watches, a sailor will stop a countdown at the crossing line and then start the chronograph. The Swiss Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta watch is designed to automatically flick from countdown to chronograph.

Making its debut at SIHH 2017, the watch even had two professional yachtsmen (Loïck Peyron and Iain Percy from the Swedish Artemis Racing team) to help design it.

With a bi-directional chronograph counter, the watch automatically begins timing a race once the countdown is complete, thereby eliminating the need to hit the restart button exactly when the race begins.

Having made marine chronometers since 1846, Ulysse Nardin is the name you need when it comes to practicality on the water

Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Chronograph

When it comes to the watch most loved by Britain’s favourite secret agent, the Omega Seamaster Diver is up there with the best. Relied upon by divers for its precision timing in and out of the water, the first edition of this model was launched in the late 1940s for the French Navy Seals.

Since then, the watch has seen upgrades and it now features bold colours and new functions to offer suave style.

Last year saw a revised version of the James Bond watch released with a larger case, ceramic dial and engraved wave patterns made available in several distinct shades. This year Omega is expanding the collection with a stunning white ceramic dial.
