‘Through the roof pink’ for Bubba Watson’s bold new wristwear
He’s best known for his neon pink clubs, and now American golfer Bubba Watson has a matching watch for his wrist.
The big-hitting leftie who won the Masters twice has partnered Richard Mille since 2010. He’s even worn test watches on the green to check out their durability and whether they can withstand the stresses of hard stops and his explosive 194mph drives.
RM 38-02 Bubba Watson
The RM 38-02 Bubba Watson is another new creation between Richard Mille and Bubba – and is limited to just 50 pieces worldwide.
Inspired by the golfer’s lucky colour, the white and bright pink Quartz TPT bezel and caseback are quite striking. We particularly admire the white crown insert which features dimples resembling a golf ball.
The main considerations for the watch were that it had to be able to withstand the stresses of drastic accelerations. When a golf ball hits the club face, it can accelerate with a force of up to 50,000Gs – so the watch had to withstand shocks of no less than 10,000Gs.
Carbon TPT for the ultimate durability
The new timepiece is built around a baseplate in carbon TPT – layers of carbon filaments – which is incredibly hard, with five titanium bridges providing the ultimate stability for golf conditions. Extensive tests were carried out on the baseplate to ensure the skeletonisation didn’t affect the mechanical properties. The caseband is also made of Carbon TPT and pink Quartz TPT – both unique to the brand.
Water resistant to 50 metres, this watch is quite the perfect watch for many sports, ensured by two Nitrile O-ring seals and assembled using 20 grade 5 titanium screws, not to mention abrasion-resistant washers in stainless steel.
Bubba said: “Richard has made some amazing watches for me over the last ten years, but the one thing I kept bugging him for was pink — and he sure listened. There are so many things going on with it. The curve, like the slope on a golf course. The holes. The V with the two bars. I’m just in awe of the sheer mechanics.”
The watch is available in bubblegum pink, black and white.

Several models have been made especially for Bubba : the RM 038 Tourbillon, the RM 38-01 Tourbillon G-Sensor and the RM 055.
After the success of the limited edition RM 038 Golfer’s Tourbillon released in 2011, Richard Mille developed a specific tourbillon watch for Bubba Watson with added functionalities to complement his powerful swings on the course.
The result was the RM 38-01 G-Sensor Tourbillon Bubba Watson – an incredible timepiece that has a patented g-sensor for providing insights for golfers during the game. The watch could measure and survive forces up to 20 Gs! But it still needed more shock proofing…
The manual-winding RM 055 offered skeletonised movement and a free-sprung balance for more reliability in the event of shocks, movement assembly or disassembly, and guaranteed better chronometric results over time. RM

The RM 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson is the fourth watch of the collection bearing Bubba’s name over more than a decade as a Richard Mille ambassador.
The watch measures 43.70 x 50.04 x 15.95 mm and contains a two-hander Calibre RM38-02 manual winding tourbillon movement with 70 hours power reserve.
It is produced in a numbered limited edition of 50 pieces.
