What’s new from Breitling in 2023?
In a few days the Geneva edition of the much-anticipated Watches and Wonders 2023 will be in full throng.
But one of our favourite brands has been showing off some new releases before it starts.
We decided to check in with Breitling as it celebrates its 80th year to see what it’s offering for fans and avid collectors – and the answer is, quite a lot!
The Swiss brand is definitely on a comeback with its offerings so far this year, each unique yet in perfect sync.
Breitling Premier B01 Chronograph 42
Possibly the most notable Breitling watch release this year is the much improved Premier B01 Chronograph 42 (now with the Breitling in-house movement, the calibre B01)
Founded in 1884, the company quickly gained fame for producing instruments for pilots in cockpits. As the second world war was coming to an end, the first Premier was launched – a sleek non-instrumental watch without a focus on functionality. It was something to be seen in – and was quite refined.
When Breitling revived the historic Premier line in 2019 after a 50-plus-year hiatus, the brand aimed to capture vintage flair in a modern way.
The new six-piece Premier collection offers a great range of coloured dials including ‘salmon’, black, blue, green and cream, and choices of brown alligator strap or seven-row metal bracelet, with five in steel and one in rose gold.
The Chronograph 42 (42mm) boasts a 72-hour power reserve, two subdials, a smooth bezel and a date window at 6 o’clock. The applied numerals are super shiny but still fit with the overall design and you can check out the movement via a sapphire caseback.
Top Time
Bretiling’s Top Time Classic Cars Collection is in for a treat with a new in-house chronograph movement, and there’s also a new model that takes inspiration from an old Ford Thunderbird.
The original collection was inspired when American sports cars became a cult and significant part of culture during the 1960s.
Now Breitling is teaming up again with Ford to debut the new Top Time B01 Ford Thunderbird watch, featuring a cool teal logo.
Each watch in the series links to a classic car, so we have non-limited editions in red for the Chevrolet Corvette, white for the Ford Thunderbird, blue for the Shelby Cobra and green for the Ford Mustang.
These are slightly different to the current editions as they’re slightly slimmer in width at 41mm, plus they all have the Breitling B01 automatic chronograph movement. Each has a steel case with display casebacks and are water resistant to 100 metres.
