Which Watch Does The Richest Man In Hong Kong (Worth $28 Billion) Wear?

Li Ka-Shing is the 20th richest person in the world according to Forbes magazine, estimating his net worth at $28 billion and making him the richest man in Hong Kong. From real estate to telecoms, Li has accumulated his wealth from all over the world and even earned himself the nickname “Superman” for his remarkable career.

Coming from arguably the luxury watch and jewellery capital of the world, you’d be forgiven for expecting the billionaire to wear something such as a Patek Philippe, a vintage Rolex, or something of that ilk. In fact, Li reveals in an interview with Bloomberg that he wears a Citizen Eco-Drive – a solar powered watch with a black case and bracelet which he said cost about $500.

Li describes the watch as practical, robust and inexpensive, and has it always set half an hour ahead to ensure he is never late. When asked if his friends tease him about his watch, he simply replies, “no, they know my character”. The funny part about it is that the women reporter is wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with a diamond bezel, that probably costs 30 times as much.

Hats off to Li for wearing a watch that he likes, feels comfortable with and uses for practicality when in reality could afford any timepiece available. Having said that, he probably has a private collection of rare watches hidden away somewhere that he doesn’t publicise.
