Who wore which watch at the BAFTAs?
The 78th British Academy Film Awards came with their fair share of glamour, in a ceremony hosted by Scottish favourite, David Tennant.
Conclave won four BAFTAS including Best Film and Outstanding Film, whilst Adrien Brody won Leading Actor for The Brutalist and Mikey Madison was hailed Leading Actress for Anora.
The event is a great excuse to get dressed up and party, with celebs turning up in their droves to the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
We saw Cynthia Erivo wearing Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co and Timothée Chalamet in Bottega Veneta. But of course, we love to see who is wearing which watches and this year, it was surprising to see a fair few bare wrists – including Adrien Brody! Jeff Goldblum wore a stunning Vacheron Constantin Égérie Creative Edition, but there were some beautiful watches on display. Here are a few of our favourites:
James McAvoy ~ IWC
The 45-year old Scot, who featured in Speak no Evil, Glass and Antonement showcased his style, with an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44, featuring an 18K Armor Gold case, Obsidian dial, and a perpetual calendar complication.
The meticulously crafted dial, produced in over 60 steps, features 15 layers of transparent lacquer, enhancing its optical depth.
Dev Patel ~ Cartier
Director of Monkey Man and star of Slumdog Millionaire, Dev showed his style in a Cartier London Tank Normale. The unusual midsize model crafted in 1979, features an 18ct yellow gold case.
In the 1960s and 70s, Cartier’s London workshop had more creative freedom than its Paris and New York counterparts. This led to experimental designs, including variations of the Tank.
This sought-after design was handmade in Lonon and very few were made, as Cartier London produced watches in small batches, often on special request.
Jeremy Strong ~ Richard Mille
Golden Globe winner and Succession star, Strong, sported a Richard Mille RM 63-01 Automatic Winding Dizzy Hands, known for its unique rotating sapphire glass dial and anti-clockwise movement, creating a mesmerizing visual effect.
The watch features a unique complication that, when activated, decouples the hour hand from the movement and makes the sapphire dial rotate freely, creating a hypnotic effect. This feature is activated by pressing the pusher integrated into the bezel at 2 o’clock.
Crafted in grade 5 titanium for strength and lightweight wear, this round case design is powered by the RMAC3 automatic calibre.
Orlando Bloom ~ Porsche
As the new face of Porsche Design, it would be rude for Orlando Bloom not to don the Chronograph 1 Automatic at the BAFTAs.
The Carnival Row fantasy series star, who is engaged to songstress Katy Perry, wore the model which takes inspiration from the 1972 model by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. This timepiece seamlessly merges automotive and horological heritage. Its sleek design is complemented by a sapphire crystal case back, offering a view of the mechanical movement and winding rotor.
One of the first watches to feature an all-black design, it’s inspired by the Porsche 911 dashboard for optimal legibility. Made from titanium (a departure from the original’s PVD-coated steel), it offers lightweight comfort with a 40.8mmm diameter and sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating for better visibility.
Guy Pearce ~ Omega
Australia’s Guy, who starred in Bloodstone and The Kings Speech, opted for an Omega Speedmaster ’57 – a 40.5mm stainless steel case with a blue dial and blue leather strap, which looked fetching with his matching velvet suit.
Powered by the manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9906, combining classic design with modern precision, it’s resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
