Wonderful watches of the Windsors
The British royal family is worth half a billion dollars and bring in countless tourists to the country. With that amount of money jingling round you might expect to see a glimpse of some of the rarest or most expensive timepieces in the world, however, it’s actually rare to see one of the royals wearing a watch.
Whether that’s because they don’t want to be seen squandering taxpayers’ money on luxury items or they don’t want to be papped checking out the time at a dull event is unknown.
But with new baby Archie Harrison on the scene, we take a look at some of the watches he might be in line to inherit.
Dad Harry’s Breitling Aerospace
Archie’s dad was spotted wearing this smart timepiece at the Invictus Games. This beauty from Prince Harry’s watch collection features a titanium bracelet, black dial and superquartz movement, is water resistant to 100m and has a unidirectional rotating bezel. Available at around £2000, this Breitling is a fairly modest purchase for the royal but is suitable for pilots, which could be the attraction.
Mum Meghan’s Cartier Tank Francaise
If you’ve often wondered what watch Meghan Markle wears, we have the answer. From the Tank Francaise collection, the newest royal wife has been spotted wearing this Cartier timepiece which features a breathtaking array of brilliant-cut diamond hour markers, on a number of occasions. She bought the £3,400 watch after learning she would be appearing in the third series of Suits and even had it engraved with a message to pass onto her children.
An elegant Swiss piece for the latest royal bride, it also features a synthetic blue cabochon spinel at the crown and smooth bezel, making it the perfect accompaniment for any royal outfit.
Uncle Wills’ Omega Seamaster
It’s believed that Prince William’s Omega Seamaster quartz 300m was a gift from his late mother, Princess Diana. A classic vintage timepiece which will appreciate well, the timepiece looks impressive with any suit and is suitable for any occasion. It was also the watch he wore when he married Kate Middleton in 2011.
His watch, favoured by James Bond, features a date dial, a chronometer, a screw-in crown, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and a helium-escape valve. The dial is covered with sapphire crystal and is scratch-resistant, while the wristband is made from stainless steel.
Aunty Kate’s Cartier Ballon Bleu
Like her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton is also a fan of Cartier and is frequently spotted sporting her medium-sized Cartier Ballon Bleu in public.
Cartier produces the watch in a range of sizes and different movements including quartz and mechanical versions. Her version is made of steel and sized at 36mm wide.
Grandad Charles’ Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Chronograph
Parmigiani Fleurier is the future king’s watch house of choice. His smart chronograph is often tucked discreetly beneath his shirt cuff. The watch boasts a chronograph that can more than keep up with the royal’s days out as hidden away inside the 39mm, 18k rose gold case is the ever-reliable Zenith El Primero Automatic Caliber.
