Alan Sugar’s Watch Collection From The Apprentice On BBC One – Part Two

As you know, we have been following the Apprentice week in week out, and have been taking stock of Lord Alan Sugar’s watches (read Part One). Following the conclusion of this year’s series, whereby Welsh entrepreneur Alana Spencer won the coveted £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar – starting a cakes and sweets business, we thought it would be a good idea to look back at Alan Sugar’s watch collection.

WEEK 6 – ROLEX STAINLESS STEEL DAYTONA WHITE DIAL REF 116500LN

Of course it would only be natural for one of the biggest businessman on the planet to choose this stunning watch. Released in 2016, this Daytona has been considered one of the most sought after watches of 2016 and has been practically sold out everywhere – and for good reason. The new reference 116500LN is an upgraded model from the 116520 model, with stunning new additions like the black Cerachrom bezel and new tweaks to the dial, chronographs and bezel lettering. The watch still keeps the classic ingenuity of the 116520, right down to the 40mm 904L Stainless Steel case, the polished centre links, the Superluminova accents and the caliber 4130 Swiss movement – a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement.

Rolex have two examples for this watch, the white dial and the black dial, and both are valued by Rolex at £9,100.

WEEK 7 – ROLEX STAINLESS STEEL DAYTONA WHITE DIAL REF 116520

Lord Sugar 116520 Daytona

An interesting choice from Lord Sugar in week 7 as he decided to sport the old generation Rolex Daytona in stainless steel and white dial combination – Ref 116520. What makes this particularly interesting is the fact that Lord Sugar has both generations of Daytona’s (Ref 116520 and Ref 116500LN). The Daytona is probably the most iconic sports watches of all time and this example has a clear, crisp, high gloss white dial to sport in the boardroom.

Although the date is not exactly that clear, we would guess that the production piece of this watch is 2004. The watch is 40mm of 904L stainless steel and features a steel oyster bracelet and is powered by an Automatic movement. Although Rolex have officially stopped producing the Ref 116520, the second hand market values this watch at £9,750.

WEEK 8 – ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL EXPLORER STAINLESS STEEL REF 214270

Rolex Explorer Lord Sugar

A classic Rolex Explorer featured in week 7, establishing quite the collector in Lord Sugar. This classic timepiece is simply elegant yet so bold in design and movement. The Rolex Explorer benefitted from experience gained in the Himalayas, whereby explorers used to find the watch highly desirable because of the optimal legibility – especially in the dark. Back in the boardroom, the watch proved to be an elegant accompaniment to a three piece suit.

The watch is cased in 39mm 904L stainless steel and includes the Rolex signature smooth bezel. The watch also has a stunning black Explorer’s dial, and complete with the oyster stainless steel bracelet. The calibre 3132 self-winding mechanical movement is also an example of the benchmark Rolex instills in their timekeeping precision and power.

The Ref 214270 has one example in collection and is valued by Rolex at £4,800.

WEEK 9 – CARTIER TORTUE WATCH 18K WHITE GOLD REF WGTO0003

Cartier Tortue - Lord Sugar

This stunning watch was worn by Lord Sugar in week 8 and is a stable example of elegance and style – especially in the boardroom. The Tortue is famed for its tortoise-inspired watch design in a time where all watches were round and epitomises the attributes of the business mogul. The Tortue watch is cased in a 44.95mm 18K white gold case, faceted 18K white gold crown set with the iconic sapphire. This stunning watch also includes silvered guillioché dial, blued-steel sword shaped hands, sapphire crystal and finished off with a black semi-matt alligator skin strap.

WEEK 10 – PIAGET ALTIPLANO 900P 18K WHITE GOLD AND BLACK FINISH REF GOA39111

In week 10, the incredible Piaget Altiplano 900P watch was sported by the business mogul. Much like Lord Sugar himself, the watch is a marvel in the industry – in that it is the world’s thinnest hand-wound mechanical watch. The classic style of this watch makes it the perfect watch for the hustle and bustle of the business world.

The watch is encased in a 38mm white gold case and is 3.65mm in width. What makes this a truly special watch is that the calibre and case have been merged to form a whole. The watch is finished with a satin-finish circular case-back, black treated bridges, ‘sunburst’ motif and a black alligator strap to match. This stunning watch is valued by Piaget at £24,700.

WEEK 11 – ROLEX SUBMARINER YELLOW GOLD REF 116618LB

In Week 11, Lord Sugar’s yellow gold Oyster Perpetual Submariner with blue dial made a reappearance in the boardroom. Originally making an appearance in week 4, this incredible timepiece once again made a true impression in CEO fashion.

The case is 40mm 18k yellow gold with an unidirectional rotatable 60-minute bezel and dial in blue. The Oyster flat three-piece bracelet is entirely in yellow gold as well. The Swiss calibre Rolex manufactured 3135 movement, a self-winding mechanical movement. The watch is a thing of true beauty and is a spectacular member of the Lord Sugar watch collection.

FINALS WEEK 12 – PIAGET ALTIPLANO 1205P 18K WHITE GOLD REF GOA38130

Lord Sugar's Piaget 18k 900P
