Time to choose a blue hue for 2020

There’s something very suave and sophisticated about a blue dial on a wristwatch. A must-have accessory, they’re not as commonplace as white or black varieties but a deep navy hue or bocholt blue always attracts the right attention.

Dapper for a wedding, slick at work or casual for the weekend, this shade has plenty to offer everyone. So if you’re in the running for a new luxury watch, here’s why you should consider a blue dial…

Omega Seamaster Diver 300

When the invitation says ‘black tie’ you won’t want to leave this beauty at home. As the only blue dial worn by legendary secret agent James Bond, it’s not to be missed.

With a chunky bezel and a dial etched with waves, it’s an iconic Omega accessory, first made for the British military during World War II. While it’s a diving watch, the Seamaster Diver has now been made fashionable for any occasion after Daniel Craig was spotted suited and booted, wining and dining in it during filming.

Rolex Submariner Date Stainless Steel Yellow Gold Blue Dial Watch

If you’re looking for something to wow, it has to be the Rolex Submariner (reference 116613). With a 40mm stainless steel case, yellow gold bezel and Oyster bracelet to complement its bright blue Cerachrom disc, it’s quite the eye-opener. This timepiece is water resistant to 300m.

IWC Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince

The blue-dialled editions from this range are quite stunning but the metallic dial of the special edition makes it vibrant and interchangeable between ornate and utilitarian.

Like cockpit instrumentation, the clearly organised dial is reduced to essentials, and legibility is a top priority. The IWC timepiece, which is water-resistant, is powered by an automatic 35111-calibre movement, allowing it to meet the requirements of professional pilot’s watches in terms of precision and has a 42-hour power reserve.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique

One of the first-ever diving watches, Blancpain upgraded its early model last year. It features a striking blue dial and co-ordinated canvas strap, making it the perfect wrist companion for winter.

Embodying Blancpain’s passion for the marine world, the 129-hour power reserve, 35 jewels and satin brushed titanium, make this watch a feature of most wanted lists.

F.P Journe Chronometre Bleu

We love the rare tantalum case featured on this F.P Journe. It’s the first of the brand’s offerings to feature the corrosion-resistant metal which is rarely used in watch manufacture due to its high fusion temperature.

The movement of solid gold visible through the clear caseback and blue chrome dial, make this one of the most desirable watches from this brand.
