Christmas lights winners give charity lift-off

The scenes were set, the lights aglow – and we can now reveal the winner of the Epping Town Council’s Best Dressed Christmas Home Competition.

Luxe Watches sponsored the £300 prizes and we were thrilled to help judge the contest, which was open to all homes in the parish of Epping, including Coopersale and Fiddlers Hamlet.

We couldn’t believe the effort that went into the entries, given the pandemic.

But it was Teresa and Garry Hartshorn of Lindsey Street, and their all-out attempt to transform part of their garden into a nativity scene from Bethlehem, who grabbed our attention.

In another area they’d created a winter wonderland which featured a snowman watching Rudolph galloping away in the snow, while Santa attempted to sneak presents in through a window.

When we arrived to deliver the good news to the winners, they kindly offered to donate their cash to the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

In second and third places were some super sparkly homes on Clover Leas and Rayfield.

The competition, which was the first of its kind in Epping, was judged by Town Mayor Michael Wright, Deputy Mayor Councillor Barbara Scruton and Oscar Strong, our sales manager.

Cllr Michael Wright said: “We were so impressed by the efforts of the many residents to decorate their homes for Christmas, especially given the current situation with the Covid pandemic.

“Thank you so much to Luxe Watches for kindly sponsoring the prizes.”

Oscar said: “We were thrilled to be involved in such a fun community initiative. I was so impressed with the first prize winner’s amazing lights at Lindsey Street. They literally had everyone to do with Christmas dotted around and lit up in their garden.

“It really encapsulated what the festive holiday is all about and the effort that went into it blew me away.”

Luxe Watches would like to wish all of our customers old and new a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our boutique is open until 6pm Christmas Eve and will reopen on 29 December.
