Crafted bracelet
The 39mm case is the perfect size on a man’s wrist and with a.fully integrated bracelet – the hallmark of Piguet since the 70s – and sloping bezel, it easily fits under a suit cuff. The hand finishing is impeccable. Evacuated channels on the underside mean no trapped hairs or pinched skin.
The shoulders are polished and the tops are brushed, giving this watch a professional look. Stepped links up to the dial are incredibly smooth despite the graduation and a double deployant clasp means when closed it’s subtle and discreet, rather like a Rolex President. Ergonomically this self-winding watch is a great option for a smaller wrist.
Beautiful bezel
The bezel is a masterpiece. Originally the Royal Oak was inspired by a traditional diver’s helmet and characterised by an octagonal shaped bezel secured by eight visible hexagonal gold screws. But the bezel bolts are not actually screws – they’re famously aligned using a countersunk technique. Polished on their sides, the bolts are brushed on top and they frame the silver-toned dial perfectly.
Dial
With its Grande Tapisserie pattern, white gold hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating, it’s a stunning watch to admire. The caseback is solid and features the Audemars Piguet logo.
Further features
With no fewer than 261 parts and 33 jewels, the Royal Oak Dual Time has a calibre 2329 / 2846. The power reserve is 38 hours which is fairly low by modern standards but it does feature a dual time zone. There is also a day and night indicator and date.
All complications can be set through the screw down crown. You can sync time zones by fully pulling out the crown. The screw down crown provides more protection against any moisture but the watch does have a water resistance of 50m.
